18-foot Python Captured in Florida – Hide your Pets and Small Children!

Residents and tourists beware the new inhabitant in town. An 18-foot, python was just captured by officials. This is the second largest python in Florida’s history. The Burmese python, an invasive species in Florida, was captured by a permitted python researcher on July 9.

According to CBS Miami, the monster snake was captured along the Shark Valley tram road, a paved path for bicyclists and anyone taking a leisurely stroll.

The python, a female, was a mere four inches shorter than the largest python in Florida history. US Geological Survey officials say snakes of this size are able to eat animals like deer and alligators.

Officials told CBS Miami the snake was humanely euthanized. No telling how many more snakes may turn up with the growing population of pythons in the Florida area.
