Amazing discovery on the Black Sea’s bottom: an underwater river, with waterfalls, trees and leaves

The scientists discovered a massive underwater river on the Black Sea’s bottom. This fascinating river with trees and leaves that fall on the sea’s bottom has also waterfalls. Placed on the land, this river would be in the top 6 regarding the volume of water that flows through it. It is about 350 times bigger than Thames and 10 times bigger than the Rhine. The discovery will help the scientists to clarify more the way in which the life manages to survive in the ocean’s depths, away from the waters rich in nutrients from the shore’s vicinity. The underwater river, which reaches depths of 30 meters in some areas, it has waterfalls looking the terrestrial ones.

The researchers from the Leeds University used an underwater robot to study the deep channel that was discovered under the water and they found a river with very salt water, which flows along the deep channel on the bottom of the Black Sea and creates meadows and banks like the ones of a terrestrial river. It is not the first discovery of an underwater river. In the depth of the Mexico Sea is a river called Cenote Angelita, discovered by Anatoly Beloshchin and his team of divers. He says that he was at 30 meters depth, in sweet water, and then at 60 meters depth, salt water and he saw a river under him, an island with falling leaves. He also added that the river is actually a channel with sulfured hydrogen. This underwater river is the same as a conventional river. It reaches a 35 meters depths, with sweet water debit and salt water debit, based on the depth. The researchers are searching for as many examples as possible. Many of these underwater rivers were discovered and their number will probably increase in the future.
