First Look at Attractions Coming to Disney Parks this Year

On Wednesday, Disney announced its latest wave of planned new parks and attractions, including themed experiences for Star Wars and Frozen — and a whole section for Toy Story. Here’s the rundown of what’s coming, as well as a round of first-look photos.

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular

Following “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” — a live stage show that launched earlier this month — this new show “will combine fireworks, pyrotechnics, special effects and video projections” each night, making the entire street and surroundings of the Chinese theater look like recognizable planets and locations from the Star Wars universe.

Light displays during the show will resemble lightsaber beams in the sky. Disney says it’ll feature the most elaborate fireworks display in the company’s history.

Stormtroopers and Captain Phasma from ‘The Force Awakens’ marching at ‘Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away,’ which opened in April.

Frozen Ever After

An attraction based on the icy film that won the hearts of kids everywhere is set to open in June, perhaps to finally answer the question of what happens to a snowman in summer.

The ride, based at Epcot Center in Orlando, will take visitors on a “Winter in Summer” tour of the kingdom of Arendelle, including Elsa’s ice palace. Actors will portray the characters on-site, while the film’s stars and composers returned to add new dialogue and music and enhance the experience.

Toy Story Land

A look at the preliminary concept art for Toy Story Land.

Woody, Buzz and the rest of Andy’s famous toys will finally have a home at Disney Parks with Toy Story Land, where “you’ll find yourself shrunk to the size of a toy to explore the world of Andy’s backyard.”

Concept art for Slinky Dog Dash, a coaster that will “zip, dodge and dash around many turns and drops.”

The planned park includes rides like Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers, based on the toys Andy finds at Pizza Planet and their obsessive worship of “The Claw.”
