3rd-generation, Water Resistant Moto G Motorola Unveiled

Motorola has a big day planned. It’s rolling out two new phones in the U.S.: a flagship Moto X update and a lower-end, more road-ready Moto G.

The handset maker, though, got the party started early and just unveiled the water-resistant (IPX7-rated) Moto G in India.

According to a series of tweets from Motorola India, the third-generation, Android Lollipop-based G gets a number of welcome updates.

It’s now equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera that has a dual flash. The front camera (or “selfie camera”) gets a nice bump from 2MP up to 5MP. Motorola has even added a feature it calls Quick Capture which lets you take a picture just by moving the camera (we won’t truly understand how that doesn’t create blurry photos until we see the device in person, which should be later today).

The screen size on the dual-SIM-supporting Moto G is still 5 inches, but now it features a high-resolution, 294 ppi (pixels per inch) screen.

Under the hood is another Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but this one is a 1.4GHz, quad-core chip. Motorola has also increased battery performance to 2,470 milliamp-hours (mAh), up from 2,070.

The Moto G will be available in 8GB and 16GB models. Pricing in the U.S. has not yet been announced, though that should be forthcoming shortly.
