Luxurious Second-generation Moto 360 Seen in the Wild
A new and more stylish-looking Moto 360 smartwatch is coming. How do we know? Because they’ve reportedly been spotted on wrists in Chicago. Reddit user ThatGuyWhoRuinedIt and Google+ user Gerrit Gödecke (as collected via Droid-Life) have both posted photos of what appears to be the second-generation version of Motorola’s Android Wear-based smartwatch.
The IRL photos match a photo that Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing accidentally shared on Sina Weibo (China’s Twitter), which was later saved by HelloMotoHK. That photo showed the Moto 360 in two sizes.
As you can see in the photos above, the second-gen Moto 360 appears to be sleeker. It’s still got a round display, but it looks more comfortable to wear. (Not that the first-gen Moto 360 isn’t comfy.) The photos show the wearable has watch lugs like the LG G Watch R and Watch Urbane, which should make it easier to swap out bands.
The spy shots aren’t the clearest, but we can clearly make out leather bands and the “flat tire” a.k.a. “the slice” (the black section on the bottom of the display).
You can also see the incomplete circle of the display, which reviewers disliked the first time around. Motorola said it was a necessary compromise because of the placement of the ambient light sensor. Android Wear fans hoping for something more like LG’s round smartwatch displays, which are a full 360 degrees, may be disappointed.
Updated specs and higher-resolution are more than likely for the second-gen Moto 360. It’s also possible the smartwatch will support Android Wear’s always-on display, which shows the time in standby without sucking up too much battery power.
The Moto 360 was announced in September last year, so the timing is right for a refresh this fall.
