Save-for-Later App Pocket Adds Recommendations
Pocket, a popular app for saving articles to read later, has added a recommendation feature to help users find what to read next, the company announced in a blog post Pocket 6.0 has added a tab to the top of its app that’ll swap between your saved articles, and a steady stream of recommended articles, which you can then save for offline reading as well.
The feature went live today in an app update across iOS and Android. The company’s website was updated with recommendations as well.
Recommendations are based on popular articles saved to Pocket, and then tailored to things you’ve saved in the past. For example, the much-read expose on Amazon’s work culture by
New York Times was the first thing the app suggested for me, followed by a Harvard Business Review story about how long work hours backfire for companies.
The new feature is just one of the ways Pocket is trying to distinguish itself from similar apps.
Instapaper, which also lets you save articles for offline reading, has long had a curation feature like the one Pocket just introduced. Now, more and more apps will let you save articles, too. Facebook’s app has long let you save news stories. While Apple has built the functionality into Safari in Mac OS X and iOS. The company’s upcoming news app will let you save articles as well.
