An Indian man has a shelter for 735 unwanted dogs

December 30, 2016 By James R

Rakesh Shukla is a software engineer from India that has one and a half hectare domain where are living 735 dogs without a master, which he adopted, the BBC informs. In the shelter of Rakesh Shukla are ordinary dogs, but also Saint Bernard dogs, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Labradors, Pugs, Beagles and so on. Most of them have never had a master, but others were abandoned. Among the last newcomers are 22 dogs with pedigree whose master, a businessman, was killed. The man, who ten years ago has set up, with his wife, a company that manufactures software, spends three or four days per week on the farm to take care of the dogs.

Kavya has entered into his life in 2009. A beautiful little female dog under the age of 45 days, a breed of Golden Retriever which needed him. In 2012, as the number of dogs had on the care increased, Shukla bought the farm in Doddballapur, which became with time a ‘heaven’ for the unwanted, sick and old dogs. The shelter benefits from the work of ten people, among which are included veterinary assistants who care and cook for those 735 dogs. In total, the animals consume 200 kilograms of chicken meat and 200 kilograms of rice per day. Last year, Rakesh Shukla was confronted with various complaints from the animal protection activists who have asked to be let on the property, but also from those who complain of the noise.

There have even been requests for the closure of the shelter, but the man has stated that he may not allow such a thing because he has made ‘a pact with the dogs’. The costs per day of this shelter reaches 663 – 737 dollars, according to Shukla and he is the one providing about 93% of the funds.
