James Franco to star opposite himself in HBO drama

For reasons known only to himself, James Franco is reportedly going to star in an upcoming HBO series about the porn industry in the 1970s and ’80s.

His main costar? James Franco, of course.

The Deuce — created by David Simon, the mind behind The Wire and Treme — follows the turbulent rise of the porn industry in New York City as headed up by twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino (both to be played by Franco). Franco will executive produce The Deuce and star alongside fellow producer Maggie Gyllenhaal, who will also star as a prostitute named Candy.Simon is joined as executive producer by The Wire‘s Nina Noble, writers Richard Price and George Pelecanos, and producer Marc Henry Johnson. The pilot was directed and executive produced by Breaking Bad‘s Michelle McLaren.
