“Don’t be a dummy!” That’s what the Toronto Police Service is telling the public after an unnamed driver was caught in the HOV lane on with two dressed mannequin dummies, according to a statement from the department.
“As a result, the driver was subsequently charged with the appropriate HOV offense,” Toronto police said. “On a positive, note, everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt,” including the mannequins.
The driver was stopped on Wednesday on the Gardiner Expressway after an officer noticed that the front-seat passenger in the Dodge pick-up truck “did not appear to be life-like,” according to police.
The dummy in the front passenger seat was was wearing a baseball cap over a long, black wig of hair and was dressed in a floral top, according to the photo the cop snapped. The dummy in the back seat was wearing a black cap over a shorter black wig of hair and sported a yellow t-shirt, police said.
The photo was shared on the department’s Twitter account with the caption, “Are you hangin’ with dummies?”
It has been favorited over 500 times and retweeted over 300 times in less than 24 hours.
“The Toronto Police Service and the Integrated Security Unit would like to thank the motorists who continue to help us keep the region moving by carpooling, re-routing, re-timing, and taking transit whenever possible,” police added in a statement.
