New Image Released in Effort to ID Girl Found Dead

July 10, 2015 By Ellen Smith

Police on Thursday released a new image of a girl who was found dead in a trash bag in Massachusetts last month — a search to determine her identity that has been shared by millions.

The new composite of the toddler-age girl was released by Massachusetts State Police on July 9 and adds earrings to a previous composite by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

“The previous composite should not be considered inaccurate, but this one represents the most up-to-date version,” a post on the department’s Facebook page says.

The girl’s body was found on the western shore of Deer Island, near Boston, on June 25.

She was wearing leggings with black and white polka dots and a black and white zebra-stripe blanket was found with her body, according to police.

Police said she was about 4-years-old, about 30 pounds and about 3 1/2 feet tall at the time of her death.

“We ask the public to be alert for any children who seem to have gone missing from their communities, their neighborhoods, schools, summer programs, parks, churches or any other places where people gather,” the police said in the Facebook post.

“Please help us speak for this child who can no longer speak for herself.”

Anyone with information was asked to call the Massachusetts State Police, 508-820-2121, the Suffolk COunty State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817 or Winthrop Police at 617-539-5806.

“Our investigators are working tirelessly on following up on any lead,” said Trooper Dustin Fitch.

On July 3, police provided an update saying that they had gotten “many tips” but that it was not a missing West Virginia girl.
